🧀 Homemade Mozzarella Sticks Recipe offers crispy, golden-coated mozzarella sticks that provide a deliciously satisfying snack or appetizer.
🍅 This recipe’s thorough breading and freezing technique ensures gooey, melty cheese inside with a perfect crunchy exterior every time.

  • Total Time: 1 hour 28 minutes
  • Yield: 15 mozzarella sticks 1x

Ingredients

Scale

1 ½ cups (106 g) plain Panko crumbs, crushed slightly with a rolling pin

½ teaspoon Italian seasoning

½ teaspoon dried parsley

¼ teaspoon garlic powder

½ teaspoon ground black pepper

¼ teaspoon table salt

2 large eggs, beaten

½ cup (63 g) all-purpose flour

1 lb whole milk mozzarella block (cut into 15 sticks) or 15 whole milk string cheeses

Vegetable oil for frying

Marinara sauce for dipping

Instructions

1-Crush the Panko crumbs until fine and mix with the Italian seasoning, dried parsley, garlic powder, ground black pepper, and table salt.

2-Prepare three shallow dishes: one with the all-purpose flour, one with the beaten eggs, and one with the seasoned Panko mixture.

3-Cut the mozzarella block into 15 sticks if using a block.

4-Dredge each cheese stick by first coating with flour, shaking off excess; then dipping in the beaten eggs, letting excess drip off; and finally coating thoroughly with the seasoned Panko mixture.

5-Place the coated sticks on a wire rack set over a baking sheet.

6-Freeze the sticks for at least one hour. For longer storage, transfer to an airtight container after freezing.

7-Heat vegetable oil in a pot to 350°F (175°C) using a thermometer.

8-Fry the sticks two at a time for about one minute until golden brown, then drain on paper towels.

9-Allow the oil to return to the proper temperature between batches.

10-Serve warm with warmed marinara sauce.

Notes

🧀 Use whole milk mozzarella block for better flavor, texture, and quantity.
🍞 Slightly crush Panko crumbs to help the coating stick better and achieve crispiness.
❄️ Freeze sticks before cooking to prevent cheese from escaping while frying.
🌡️ Maintain oil temperature at 350°F and fry only two sticks at a time for even cooking.
🍳 Fully coat sticks with breading to avoid cheese leakage during cooking.
🥫 Store frozen sticks for later cooking by air frying at the same temperature with a slightly longer time.
