Ingredients

Scale

2 cups all-purpose flour
4 teaspoons poppy seeds
1 teaspoon baking soda
1 teaspoon baking powder
1/4 to 1/2 teaspoon salt
1 large egg, at room temperature
3/4 cup granulated sugar
1/3 cup vegetable oil or melted butter
1/3 cup sour cream or Greek yogurt
2/3 cup whole milk, at room temperature
3 tablespoons fresh lemon juice
1 tablespoon lemon zest

For the Glaze:
1/2 to 1 cup confectioners’ sugar
1 to 3 tablespoons fresh lemon juice
Optional: candied lemon slices for garnish

Instructions

1. Preheat oven to 350°F (177-180°C). Grease a 9×5-inch loaf pan and optionally line with parchment paper.
2. In a large bowl, whisk together flour, poppy seeds, baking soda, baking powder, and salt.
3. In a separate bowl, whisk egg and sugar until slightly pale. Add oil, sour cream, milk, lemon juice, and lemon zest.
4. Pour wet ingredients into dry ingredients and mix until just combined.
5. Pour batter into prepared loaf pan and smooth the top. Bake for 50-60 minutes, covering with foil halfway if browning too fast.
