Ingredients
– 3 pounds boneless pork shoulder, pork butt, or pork sirloin roast
– 1 teaspoon salt (coarse, kosher salt recommended)
– ½ teaspoon black pepper (coarsely ground recommended)
– 2 cups water or low-sodium chicken broth
– 2 tablespoons liquid smoke
– 3 cups BBQ sauce (plus more for serving)
Instructions
1-Trim excess fat from the pork shoulder and season it evenly with the salt, black pepper, and any other spices you choose.
2-Place the pork in the slow cooker and pour in the water or chicken broth, liquid smoke, and BBQ sauce to cover it well.
3-Cover and cook on low for 8-10 hours, or on high for 4-6 hours, until the pork is tender enough to shred easily.
4-Remove the pork from the slow cooker, shred it with two forks, and mix it back into the juices for extra moisture.
5-Toast your buns if desired, then pile on the pulled pork and add toppings like coleslaw for a fresh crunch.
