Ingredients
– 1 1/2 pounds ground beef (preferably ground chuck)
– 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
– 1 teaspoon onion powder
– 1/2 teaspoon salt
– 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
– 1 teaspoon ground mustard
– 1 small onion, thinly sliced
– 1 (10.5-ounce) can French onion condensed soup (undiluted)
– 1 (0.87-ounce) packet brown gravy mix
– 1/2 cup water
– 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
Instructions
1-Getting started with hamburger steaks: First off, grab a large bowl and crumble in that 1 1/2 pounds of ground beef, then sprinkle on the 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder, 1 teaspoon onion powder, 1/2 teaspoon salt, 1/4 teaspoon black pepper, and 1 teaspoon ground mustard. Mix it all gently with a fork so you don’t toughen the meat, and shape it into 4 equal patties, pressing a little dent in the center of each to keep them from puffing up.
2-Cooking the patties: Next, heat up your skillet cast iron works wonders here over medium-high heat until it’s good and hot. Lay those patties in without crowding them, cooking for about 4 minutes on each side to get that nice dark brown crust. Once they’re done, pull them out and let them rest on some paper towels to soak up any extra grease.
3-Preparing the sauce and finishing: Don’t stop there drain most of the grease from the pan, leaving about 2 tablespoons, then toss in the thinly sliced onion and sauté it until it’s translucent, which takes around 3 minutes. Stir in the undiluted French onion condensed soup, that 0.87-ounce packet of brown gravy mix, and 1/2 cup water, bringing it to a boil before lowering the heat. Add in 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce and let it simmer, then slide those patties back in and cook until they’re just right for you. This whole process, from prep to plate, clocks in at about 10 minutes prep and 20 minutes cooking for a total of 30 minutes of fun in the kitchen.

🍽️ Make patties larger than desired as they shrink during cooking; indentation in center prevents puffing.
🔥 Heat pan thoroughly before adding patties for better searing and flavor.
🍄 Add mushrooms to the gravy or onions for extra flavor variation.
