🍰 This Gingerbread Cake is a timeless favorite, packed with warm spices and a tender, moist texture that’s perfect for holiday gatherings.
🍯 With its rich molasses flavor and delightful spiced aroma, it’s a must-try classic that brings cozy comfort to any occasion.

  • Total Time: 50-60 minutes
  • Yield: 12 servings

Ingredients

– 2 ½ cups all-purpose flour

– 1 ½ teaspoons baking soda

– 1 to 2 teaspoons ground ginger

– 1 to 1 ½ teaspoons ground cinnamon

– ½ teaspoon ground cloves

– ½ teaspoon salt

– ½ cup unsalted butter

– ¾ to 1 cup granulated sugar or packed light brown sugar

– 1 large or 2 large eggs

– 1 cup molasses

– 1 cup very hot or boiling water

Instructions

1-First Step: Preheat Oven and Prepare Pan
Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) for a lighter, fluffier cake option. For a denser texture, lower the temperature to 325°F (165°C). Grease and optionally line a 9×13 inch baking pan with parchment paper for easy removal and even baking.

2-Second Step: Combine Dry Ingredients
In a medium bowl, whisk together the all-purpose flour, baking soda, ground ginger, cinnamon, cloves, and salt. This evenly mixes the spices and leavening throughout the cake batter.

3-Third Step: Cream Butter and Sugar
In a large bowl or mixer, cream softened butter and sugar until light and fluffy, about two minutes. If using melted butter, mix well with sugar until smooth to incorporate air.

4-Fourth Step: Add Molasses and Eggs
Mix in beaten eggs one at a time (if using two), then add molasses. Stir well to combine. If using melted butter, combine molasses and hot water first, then add sugar, butter, and eggs carefully to prevent curdling.

5-Fifth Step: Incorporate Dry Ingredients and Water
Gradually add dry ingredients to the wet mixture, mixing on low speed just until combined. Carefully stir in the hot or boiling water the batter will be thin and runny, which ensures a moist cake texture.

6-Sixth Step: Bake the Cake
Pour batter into the prepared pan and bake. For a 9×13 inch pan, bake 20 to 35 minutes; for a 9-inch square pan, bake at 325°F for 50 to 55 minutes. Test doneness by inserting a toothpick into the center it should come out clean or with a few moist crumbs.

7-Final Step: Cool and Serve
Allow the cake to cool on a wire rack for 10 to 30 minutes before slicing. Serve warm topped with sliced bananas, whipped cream, a dusting of powdered sugar, or drizzle with vanilla cream sauce for extra indulgence.
