Ingredients
– 12 uncooked lasagna noodles
– 4 cups shredded mozzarella cheese, divided
– Β½ cup shredded Parmesan cheese, divided
– ΒΎ teaspoon salt, adjust to taste
– Β½ pound lean ground beef
– Β½ pound Italian sausage
– 1 yellow onion, diced
– 2 cloves garlic, minced
– 36 ounces pasta sauce (add up to 48 ounces for more sauce)
– 2 tablespoons tomato paste
– 1 teaspoon Italian seasoning
– 2 cups ricotta cheese or cottage cheese
– ΒΌ cup chopped fresh parsley
– 1 large egg, beaten
– thawed, drained frozen spinach
Instructions
1-Preheat the oven to 350Β°F. Cook the lasagna noodles in salted boiling water until al dente, then drain and rinse with cold water.
2-Brown the ground beef, Italian sausage, onion, and garlic in a large skillet until no pink remains, then drain the fat.
3-Stir in the pasta sauce, tomato paste, Italian seasoning, Β½ teaspoon salt, and ΒΌ teaspoon black pepper. Simmer uncovered for about 5 minutes until slightly thickened. Adjust salt as needed.
4-In a bowl, combine 1Β½ cups mozzarella, ΒΌ cup Parmesan, ricotta or cottage cheese, parsley, egg, and ΒΌ teaspoon salt.
5-Spread 1 cup of the meat sauce in a 9Γ13 inch baking pan. Layer 3 noodles, 1 cup of the cheese mixture, and 1 cup meat sauce. Repeat layers twice more, finishing with 3 noodles topped with the remaining meat sauce.
6-Cover with foil and bake for 45 minutes. Remove foil, top with the remaining mozzarella and Parmesan cheeses, then bake uncovered for 15 minutes until bubbly and browned. Broil for 2 to 3 minutes if desired.
7-Let the lasagna rest for at least 15 minutes before serving to help it set and hold its shape.
