  • Total Time: 40 to 60 minutes
  • Yield: 40 to 50 cookie dough pretzel bites 1x

Ingredients

Scale

For the cookie dough:
1/2 cup (1 stick; 113 grams) unsalted butter, softened
2/3 to 3/4 cup packed light brown sugar
1/4 cup milk or heavy cream (about 60 ml)
1 teaspoon pure vanilla extract
1 1/4 to 1 1/2 cups (approx. 150180 grams) all-purpose flour, heat-treated
1/8 teaspoon salt (optional, but recommended)
1/2 cup mini chocolate chips

For dipping:
3/4 to 1 1/2 cups semi-sweet or dark chocolate chips or melting wafers (approx. 130270 grams)
1 tablespoon vegetable oil or 1 teaspoon shortening (optional, for thinning chocolate)
Optional: sprinkles or nonpareils for decoration

Pretzels:
Approximately 40 to 50 small pretzels (mini twists, snaps, or waffle pretzels)

Instructions

1. Heat-treat the flour by microwaving it in a microwave-safe bowl for 60-90 seconds, stirring halfway, or bake at 350°F (175°C) for 5-7 minutes. Allow to cool completely.
2. Cream together softened butter and brown sugar in a mixing bowl until light and smooth. Add milk or heavy cream and vanilla extract, mixing thoroughly.
3. Gradually combine the cooled flour and salt (if using) with the butter mixture, folding in mini chocolate chips.
4. Chill the dough in a freezer or refrigerator for 10-20 minutes to make it less sticky.
5. Roll dough into 1/2-inch balls, place each between two pretzels, and press to form sandwiches.
6. Freeze pretzel sandwiches for another 10-20 minutes to firm them up.
7. Melt chocolate with vegetable oil or shortening in short microwave intervals. Stir until smooth.
8. Dip half of each pretzel sandwich in melted chocolate, and optionally sprinkle with decorations.
9. Refrigerate or freeze the dipped sandwiches until the chocolate sets, about 10-20 minutes.
10. Store in the refrigerator for up to 5 days or freeze for longer storage.

❄️ Chilling the dough and pretzel bites makes handling easier and prevents them from falling apart during dipping.
🍫 Adding vegetable oil or shortening to the chocolate creates a smooth coating.
