  • Total Time: 15 minutes
  • Yield: 12 servings

Ingredients

– 1 ¾ cups all-purpose flour for cookie-dough base and structure

– ¾ cup unsalted butter for rich, creamy texture and buttery flavor

– ¾ cup light brown sugar for moisture and caramelized flavor

– ½ cup granulated sugar for balancing sweetness and helping dough hold together

– 2 teaspoons vanilla extract for classic cookie dough aroma and flavor

– ½ teaspoon fine sea salt for enhancing flavor and balancing sweetness

– 1 cup mini chocolate chips for chocolate element in cookie dough dip

– ¾ cup peanut butter chips for nutty flavor and soft pockets

– ¾ cup toffee bits for crunchy caramel notes

– 1 to 3 tablespoons milk for adjusting texture

– Red, white, and blue candy-coated chocolates for decoration

Instructions

1-First Step: Heat-treat and prep
Preheat your oven to 350°F. Spread 1 ¾ cups all-purpose flour in an even layer across a baking sheet.
Bake the flour for 5 minutes at 350°F to heat-treat it for safety. This reduces the risk of bacteria in raw flour. Use a food thermometer if you want to check for an internal temperature of about 160°F. Stir the flour once during baking for even heating, then let it cool completely before using.
While the flour cools, gather the rest of your ingredients and line up your mix-ins and candy-coated chocolates for decoration.

2-Second Step: Cream the base
In a large mixing bowl, cream together ¾ cup softened unsalted butter, ¾ cup light brown sugar, and ½ cup granulated sugar. Use a stand mixer or hand mixer on medium speed for about 3 minutes until the mixture is light and fluffy. This creates the smooth base that makes the cookie dough dip spreadable.
Mix in 2 teaspoons vanilla extract and ½ teaspoon fine sea salt until well combined.

3-Third Step: Add heat-treated flour and mix-ins
Gradually add the cooled, heat-treated 1 ¾ cups all-purpose flour to the creamed butter and sugars. Mix on low speed until just combined. Avoid over-mixing to keep the texture soft.
Stir in 1 cup mini chocolate chips, ¾ cup peanut butter chips, and ¾ cup toffee bits using a spatula. This is where the chocolate chip cookie dough flavor and crunchy contrast come alive.

4-Fourth Step: Adjust texture with milk
Add milk 1 tablespoon at a time, starting with 1 tablespoon. Mix and check the texture. You want a dough that holds its shape but is soft enough to press candy-coated chocolates into. Use up to 3 tablespoons if needed, adding slowly to avoid a runny texture.
If the dough becomes too soft, chill it for 15 to 20 minutes to firm slightly before shaping.

5-Fifth Step: Shape and decorate the Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough Flag Dip
On a flat surface or in a 9×13-inch shallow dish, shape the dough into a rectangle that will serve as your flag base. Smooth the top so the candy pieces sit nicely.
Press red, white, and blue candy-coated chocolates into the surface following a flag pattern. Start with red ones at the bottom row and work upward so you can plan stripes and the blue star field. Decorate sides if desired for neat presentation.
Serve immediately with graham crackers, animal crackers, or vanilla wafers for dipping.

6-Final Step: Serving and make-ahead notes
To make ahead: Refrigerate the dip without the candy-coated chocolates for up to 2 days. Add the candies just before serving to keep colors bright and prevent moisture from making them dull.
If refrigerated, let the dip sit at room temperature for 15 to 20 minutes before serving so it softens and becomes scoopable.
