🌶️ Experience the multi-layered taste of Chamoy Sauce, balancing sweet, sour, salty, and spicy elements for an unforgettable culinary adventure.
🍍 This versatile condiment enhances everything from fresh fruits to grilled meats, making it a must-try for those seeking a flavor-packed experience.

  • Total Time: 30 minutes
  • Yield: 2 cups

Ingredients

– 1/2 cup dried apricots

– 1/4 cup dried prunes or raisins

– 1/4 cup dried hibiscus flowers

– 4 dried chiles de árbol (optional)

– 2 cups water

– 3 tablespoons sugar

– 1 teaspoon chili lime seasoning or Tajín

– 1/2 teaspoon salt

– 3 tablespoons lime juice

Instructions

1-First Step: Prepare Ingredients Gather 1/2 cup dried apricots, 1/4 cup dried prunes or raisins, 1/4 cup dried hibiscus flowers, dried chiles de árbol (or chili powder), sugar, chili lime seasoning, salt, lime juice, and water. Rinse dried fruits if needed to remove any dust.

2-Second Step: Simmer the Base In a large pan, combine all dried fruits, chiles, sugar, salt, chili lime seasoning, and 2 cups water. Bring to a boil over medium-high heat, then reduce heat and let simmer gently for about 20 minutes. The dried fruits and chiles should soften and plump, infusing the liquid with their flavors.

3-Third Step: Blend the Sauce Once the mixture has cooled slightly, transfer it into a blender or food processor. Add 3 tablespoons of fresh lime juice. Blend until the sauce is smooth and thick.

4-Fourth Step: Adjust Texture and Taste If the chamoy sauce feels too thick, thin it out by adding small amounts of water. For a thinner drizzle, strain the sauce through a fine mesh sieve. Taste and adjust seasonings, adding more lime juice, sugar, or salt as desired to fine-tune the balance of sweet, sour, salty, and spicy notes.

5-Final Step: Store and Serve Pour the finished chamoy sauce into a clean jar or airtight container. Use immediately or refrigerate. This tangy and mildly spicy sauce pairs exceptionally well with fresh fruits, pickled snacks, grilled meats, desserts like ice cream or shaved ice, and even cocktails. Use a thicker version for dipping or a thinner consistency for drizzling. Refrigerate for up to one month or freeze small portions for up to six months using ice cube trays for convenience.
