🥦 Snack healthier with our crispy air fryer edamame that’s ready in minutes and full of flavor!
🥢 Perfectly chewy and crunchy, this dish is a nutritious treat packed with protein and fiber.

  • Total Time: 12 to 19 minutes
  • Yield: 4 servings 1x

Ingredients

Scale

12 to 16 ounces (about 2 cups) frozen edamame in pods or shelled
1 teaspoon neutral oil such as avocado or grapeseed oil (optional, can substitute with 2 teaspoons lemon or lime juice for oil-free)
¼ teaspoon garlic powder
¼ teaspoon onion powder
¼ teaspoon salt (omit if edamame are pre-salted)
Optional seasonings: smoked paprika, chili powder, cayenne, red pepper flakes, curry powder, za’atar, or smoked/truffle salt

Instructions

1. If using frozen edamame pods, thaw slightly if desired; for shelled edamame, thaw and pat dry with a lint-free towel to remove excess moisture for better crispness.
2. Preheat the air fryer to 375–400°F (190–205°C).
3. In a large bowl, toss the edamame with oil or lemon/lime juice, garlic powder, onion powder, salt, and any desired additional seasonings until evenly coated.
4. Place the edamame in the air fryer basket in a single layer.
5. Cook for 7 to 14 minutes depending on whether they are in pods or shelled (7–9 minutes for pods, 10–14 minutes for shelled), shaking or gently stirring the basket 2–3 times during cooking to ensure even crisping and browning. Avoid shaking too vigorously with shelled edamame to retain texture.
6. When golden brown and crisp, transfer to a plate lined with paper towels to remove any excess oil and add extra salt if desired.
7. Serve immediately. If using pods, squeeze the beans out to eat and discard the pods.

Notes

🥢 Fresh or thawed edamame can be used; reduce cook time for fresh to 4–6 minutes.
🌀 Edamame is best enjoyed immediately to maintain crispness but leftovers can be stored in an airtight container in the refrigerator for 3 to 5 days and reheated briefly in the air fryer or microwave.
🌶️ Seasonings are highly customizable; for a spicy kick, add chili crisp or red pepper flakes.
