19 to 20 marshmallows
1 cup (240 ml) water
1 cup of red, white, and blue sanding sugar or sprinkles
Graham crackers for serving

Instructions
1. Preheat the oven to 450°F (232°C).
2. Lightly grease a square or 9×9-inch baking dish with butter, ensuring the edges are covered.
3. Arrange a layer of chocolate or scatter the chocolate chips evenly across the bottom of the pan.
4. Dip each marshmallow in water, then roll in colored sanding sugar or sprinkles. Place them on parchment or wax paper to set. Aim for approximately 5 blue, 6 to 7 red, and 8 white marshmallows.
5. Carefully cut each marshmallow in half using kitchen shears to ensure an even bake.
6. Arrange the marshmallow halves, cut side down, over the chocolate in a flag-like pattern, alternating the colors for a festive look.
7. Bake for 5 to 10 minutes, or until the marshmallows are golden brown and the chocolate has melted.
8. Serve immediately while warm with graham crackers for dipping.
