1/2 cup (about 1 stick) salted, softened butter
1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
3 to 6 cloves garlic, minced
1 teaspoon Italian seasoning or a mix of dried herbs such as basil, rosemary, or parsley
1 cup shredded Colby Jack cheese
1 to 1 1/4 cups shredded mozzarella cheese
1/4 cup grated Parmesan cheese (optional, for added flavor)
Fresh chopped parsley for garnish
Salt and pepper to taste
Optional: 1/4 cup Italian salad dressing to mix with butter for extra flavor, or 2 tablespoons olive oil to add richness

Instructions

1. Preheat oven to 400°F (200°C). Slice the French bread loaf lengthwise into two halves and place on a baking sheet.

2. In a bowl, combine softened butter, garlic powder, minced garlic, Italian seasoning, salt, and pepper. Optionally mix in Italian salad dressing or olive oil.

3. Spread the garlic butter mixture evenly on both bread halves, ensuring all edges are covered well.

4. Sprinkle the cheeses evenly over the bread halves: start with Parmesan (if using), then top with Colby Jack and mozzarella cheese.

5. Bake uncovered for 12-15 minutes until the butter has melted and the cheeses are bubbly. If desired, broil for an additional 1-2 minutes for a crispy top, watching carefully to prevent burning.

6. Remove from oven and garnish with fresh parsley. Allow to cool for a few minutes before slicing into 12 slices.
