Ingredients
5 cups water
1 cup granulated sugar
2 tablespoons seedless blackberry jam (optional) or homemade syrup using 6 oz fresh blackberries, 1/2 cup water, and 1 1/2 cups sugar
1 cup fresh squeezed lime juice (approximately from 5 to 8 limes)
1 cup fresh blackberries, pureed and strained to remove seeds
Fresh limes, blackberries, and fresh mint or basil sprigs for garnish
Instructions
1. To prepare the simple syrup, mix 1 cup water, 1 cup sugar, and 2 tablespoons seedless blackberry jam. Alternatively, make a homemade blackberry syrup by boiling 6 oz blackberries with 1/2 cup water and 1 1/2 cups sugar for 2 minutes, mashing lightly, then straining. Cool for about 15 minutes.
2. While the syrup cools, squeeze fresh lime juice and strain out seeds and pulp. Puree 1 cup of fresh blackberries and strain to remove seeds.
3. In a large pitcher, combine the cooled syrup, the remaining 4 cups of water, lime juice, and pureed blackberry juice. Stir thoroughly.
4. Serve over ice in tall glasses and garnish with slices of fresh lime, whole blackberries, and sprigs of mint or basil.
